Belarusian NPP successfully passed the incoming inspection of fresh nuclear fuel supplied from Russia for the subsequent scheduled preventive maintenance in 2023 and fuel reloading at power unit No. 1. JSC TVEL delivered nuclear fuel produced by Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant (PJSC NCCP) on time in accordance with the schedule. Supplies of nuclear fuel for startup loading and first reloading for each power unit were included in the general contract for the construction of the power plant (the supplier is JSC IC ASE, an engineering division of Rosatom). Subsequent supplies are carried out under a bilateral contract between JSC TVEL and RUE Belarusian NPP, signed at the end of 2017. The design strategy of fuel utilization in VVER-1200 reactors of the Belarusian NPP provides for a four-year fuel cycle with one reload every 12 months during scheduled preventive maintenance. "As part of the long-term contract, we are ready to offer our Belarusian colleagues all the best nuclear fuel and fuel cycle solutions for VVER-1200 reactors that have successful references in Russia. While these units are the most advanced in the VVER reactor fleet, Rosatom specialists are already working on the conversion of all Russian VVER-1200 reactors to an extended 18-month fuel cycle, and are conducting research in the field of power maneuvering. Much work is being done to create innovative types of fuel for VVER reactors based on new materials, and solutions for a closed and balanced nuclear fuel cycle are being developed. All these areas help to make nuclear power even more reliable, environmentally safe and economically efficient," emphasized Oleg Grigoriev, Senior Vice President, Commercial and International Business, TVEL JSC.
